Use Case

Fisheries & Coastal Community

Seafood supply chains and digital services for coastal communities.

Catch Tracking Seafood Supply Chain Digital Identity Community Wallet
Scope

This page describes the scope of the technology in use. The status of each product and initiative can be seen on the Ecosystem.

Problem

How things stand today.

A catch passes through many hands in a short time, while coastal communities are often left out of digital services and adequate record keeping.

Current Challenges

  • The origin of a catch is hard to prove for traceability.
  • Handling and distribution are not documented in one place.
  • Coastal communities have limited access to digital services.
  • Digital literacy in coastal communities needs support.

Engine Solution

What we build.

Engine Blockchain has mapped out digital identity, a community wallet, a digital cooperative, and a seafood supply chain for coastal communities. The cooperation with PT Maha Wangsa Universe on digital transformation for the Orang Laut community is at the gentleman’s agreement stage, so the scope above is a direction of development, not a system already running in full.

Blockchain Architecture

The layers behind this use case.

Field data arrives through the application, is verified by a smart contract, and is then recorded permanently on the Engine Blockchain ledger.

Mapping what the community and stakeholders need.

  2. 02

Designing digital identity services and a community wallet.

  3. 03

Preparing records for the seafood supply chain.

    Supporting digital literacy among users.

Objectives

What this use case aims for.

The list below sets out the objectives, not results that have been measured.

  • The origin and handling of seafood is easier to trace.
  • Digital financial services become more reachable for the community.
  • Aid distribution can be recorded openly.
  • The community’s cultural archive can be documented digitally.
